So here’s a question for you guys putting together my 73 duster
The gas pedal assembly is out of a 71 dart was there a difference between these two puddles The reason I ask it’s it’s really close to the floor and brake pedal it’s a mile higher
Thanks

Perhaps the cable is too long???
When you pull the pedal away from the floor boards does the part where the cable attaches touch the firewall, with the pedal at an appropriate height.

Yes it is all the way up against The firewall
I have the adjustable pushrods on the brake pedal all the way in I suppose I could cut that to bring the brake pedal lower but then I would have to relocate the brake pedal switch because brake lights will stay on if I bring it lower The gas pedal assembly is not my original one it is out of a 71 dart not sure if there was a difference there

Does your gas pedal assy look like this

With your current gas pedal setup can you get fill carb opening when the pedal is floored?

My 67 the gas is significantly below the brake and I have hit the edge of the brake pedal when going from gas to brake, I assumed it was normal

Yes Full throttle carburetor is wide-open it’s been 20 years since I took it apart but damn I don’t remember it being that much of an offset

I think my brake pedal looks similar to that I’m not at home but did find a picture on my phone

OK I got home and took some pics maybe you guys can let me know your opinion but definitely a struggle to hit the break from the gas pedal

Have you changed your master cylinder anytime lately?

The bottom of the gas pedal looks about the same as mine.

EDIT... called my daughter ( I'm in Madison SD right now) she went out to my dart, she could slide her foot off the gas pedal and completely under the brake pedal. And she got me this photo for you. ( Man my carpet is dirty)

Intresting that your brake pedal has a twist just above the foot pad, 67 vs later years I guess?

Hey thanks for the pic
Yes I did just change the master cylinder and the pushrod however they have to be in the correct location because of the Break pedal goes any further down the lights will be stuck on I think I’m going to remove my gas pedal assembly put some heat to it and bend the rod up a little bit

Is your brake light switch adjustable? On my 70 Dart, There is a small bolt that holds the switch in place with a hold down bracket. If you loosen it, it will slide. I've had to re adjust mine, so the lights go out.

Why the adjustable brake rod? Manual or power brakes what master?

Not sure if the brake switch is adjustable I’ll have to check that out I swapped from power brakes to manual picked up Dr. DIff master and adjustable pushrod The original push rod will not work switching over

Gotcha. Might be easier to pick up a manual pushrod. I also have his master and my stock pushrod. 4 wheel manual disc

The bolt to adjust is accessed from the pass side of the brake pedal assy.

Are you sure the pushrod is inserted correctly into the keeper in the piston., That would raise the pedal a bit.

But I think it is in the normal position

Interchangeability between 71 and 73 gas pedal assemblies is questionable because they have different part numbers.

shorter pedal on later cars, but if the pedal opens the carb all the way, I don't think that the gas pedal is your issue.

The bracket shaft assembly the pedal bolts to is also different between the 71 and 73. Is it possible latter model part could raise the pedal higher?

if you just bend the pedal higher then the carb will be at full throttle before the pedal reaches the carpet. the problem there is when you mash the throttle you're stretching the cable and it will either break or bend the carb linkage. if you feel comfortable with the pedal higher you'll need to make a stop under the pedal to keep that from happening while still allowing full travel at the carb. either a block/bracket on the floor or something attached to the underside of the pedal itself.
neil.
ps my 68 valiant also has a big height difference, enough to slide my foot under the brake from the throttle so i'd say that's how they are too.

I never thought about that when I mash the panel it would not hit the floor therefore stretching cable or screwing up linkage bring up a valid point there

So there is a different part number maybe I just need to get a new pedal assembly for my 73 to bad mine ended up at my buddies 71 dart and his ended up in my 73 he no longer has the car

if they were that different then his car would've had the throttle pedal waaaaaay too high. i wouldn't mind betting what you have is just fine and where you've not used it for a while it just seems very different to your daily. i've had mates get old cars and expect them to drive like their modern daily and they just don't. they're all sorts of 'different' lol.
neil.

Here's some reference information about the A Body gas pedal and bracket assembly.1969 thru 1972 were the same,1973 was one year only and 1974 thru 1975 were the same. If anyone has all 3 pedal and brackets,it would be interesting to see the design changes Chrysler made during those years. P.S. The throttle cable stayed the same from 1970 thru 1975. One for the 6 cylinder, one for the 318 and one for the 340 or 360 in 1974 and 1975.
