That’s an easy one that was done to save shingles 1 in on 12 shingles you save a whole course. Depending on roof size it can add up quick

well, lets see, normally, there is 6 courses every 30 inches...this way there is 5
so for every 2.5 feet, you "save" a course

the roof looks like this (the one the right)

the 8x10 section on the left i added, so we wont count that
so we got 2 runs of 9 and 2 runs of 8
that is 34 foot, 408 inches
minus 6 for the first one is 402
402/30=13.4
so 13 courses
those courses run 2x19 and 2x10, so 58 feet
13 times 58 feet, is 754 linear feet
they used 3 tab shingles, so 3 feet wide
754 divided by 3, is 251 shingles
divided by 26 (is it?) shingles per bundle, is still 10 bundles

so i could have save $150 (or $300, if i bought em at lowes)

that doesnt sound like it is worth the effort
although, i paid 600 for all the stuff i needed for both roof, so you would be looking at a 20% savings if you cut corners like this

doesnt sound worth it to me

but i will admit, my back would be happy to hear that is 600 pounds of shingles i wont have to haul up a ladder
