I just installed a new Cloyes 9-3503X9 Billet timing set in my 360. Recommended intake centerline for my cam - 108. Lined up the dots and read 110. Advanced the keyway to 2A and read 112. Advanced to 4A and read 114. Set at 2R and read 108. I called Cloyes tech line to make sure I wasn't going nuts, and the guy tells me they had some crank gears go out that were labeled incorrectly(Mopar only). Yet another reason why you should ALWAYS degree your cam!

Good god Cloyes. I'd say "is nothing sacred" but we know that ain't true. Did they offer to send you one for free? Pay for the time you wasted? Pay your meds bill for the stress pills? Pay the wife's medical bills after you took it out on her? Doubt it.......LOL

Been looking for SB offset cam keys to degree my cam. Almost impossible to find. Possibly Hughes or Mopar online performance, they both show them. They are expensive too, only sold as a set. Hope mine falls into spec, if it doesn't the search will commence!!

Bought a Cloyes set for my 273 last year. Degreed it just for the heck of it (wasn't replacing the cam). Everything was kosher. Whew.

I'd be glad it actually moved the timing what it was supposed too. Wrong direction... that's the real issue. LOL

Cool you got it figured out.

I'm probably going to use it as is. The Cloyes guy said there is nothing wrong with it, just has the advance and retard numbers reversed. :eek:ops:

Yep, get it where it's correct and go.

When you get those things and the 2* keyway moves it 5* and the 8* moves it 2* that's real fun...

I have 3 or 4 keys. Kim

[1] Unless the cam was degreed & compared in another block, I don't see how post #1 proves that the t/chain set is at fault; it could be the cam or a bit of both.
[2] I believe Mr. Gasket made an offset cam key, but I think it was one only, not a set.
[3] I have heard from reputable engine builders that some Rollmaster TC sets were out a few degrees on another engine brand; do not know if they still are or if the situation has been corrected.

I had a slant 6 Rollmaster set with two issues. One, the crank gear was mis-marked by about 7 degrees. Two, that sumbitch was so tight on the crank that I had to take an air chisel to it to get it off. Thing is, it went on fairly easily. Come to find out, a lot of others had the same tightness issue. Thankfully, @Cal Tonsley came to my rescue on that and went down to Rollmaster since it is local to him and posted me a new crank gear....and wouldn't take a dime for it. It's in my new slant six in the car right now. I owe him one for that, for sure.
