hey guys im getting ready to pull the /6 from my 73 Duster, what are two good hoisting points that i can secure my chain toi....im not sure if im pulling the tranny with it or seperate them and pull them individually .. thanks

It’s easy to pull them together; there are two bolt holes on top of the intake manifold that make great hoisting points if you get bolts to fit in them:

I believe Chris is referring to the two 3/8" bolt holed in the cylinder head next to the valve cover. That's what they are there for. Just look to the driver's side of the valve cover rail on the top of the head and you will see them. Might have to unbolt something, as sometimes they are used for brackets and whatnot on different models.

^^^ Yup, what they said. Here's a shot of mine using the forward hole. I got forged eye bolts rated to 1000# each for lifting. The blue circle is the rear bolt hole on the head, below the crank breather. I don't know where I heard it, but IIRC if you use eye blots like I did, the front hole is for pulling the engine only and the rear is for engine and trans together. Or you could just put a short length of chain between the two holes mounted with standard bolts.

thanks for the help guys...SUCCESS!!!! Those hoisting points worked perfectly, motor and tranny together... thanks again

Supposedly, you attach to the front bolt to lift the engine alone (with manifolds) and the rear bolt to lift engine w/ transmission, for proper balance. But might be apocryphal since seems scary to rely on just 1 bolt, even though the safety factor is likely 10x. Also, people have found photos of a factory/dealer lifting plate which attaches to both bolt holes and has several large holes to connect a coupling.
