Ya, that stinks not knowing what the PO did. Maybe he hacked up the ports in the heads too. That can kill some serious power. Whats the set-up? You probably already told us but... Exhaust can really slow things down too.
Stock 360 block and heads, 74 vintage, 50k miles, came out of mini motorhome, or at least that's what I was told. I went through the shortblock, all bearing clearances are good, put in a new high volume oil pump, has 80 psi cold, and 35 hot idling, 70 psi under full throttle acceleration, Melling cam, .444/.466 int/exh, 288/298 duration @.050, installed straight up, new double roller chain, currently has a borrowed 4 bbl cast iron intake, I finally got my Wieand action plus from Montana last week after 20 months stuck in covid jail but have not installed it yet. Trans is a 727 with unknown convertor, rear end is 8.25 sure grip with 4.10 gears. I have TTi step headers, 2.5 inch exhaust with Flowmaster 40s dumping at the diff. I have never used MSD components before this, but I have also tried running the OE Mopar ignition system too.
Cranking compression is 125 to 135 psi across all 8.
