Battery relocation- Does anyone know of an actual hydrogen sulfide explosion incident?

The battery in my Cuda blew up last year in the garage. I’m still not sure why but it was on the charger for a couple days and I went out in the morning to start it up. At the turn of the key on top of the battery came off. It was like a bomb going off, extremely loud. Plastic pieces all over the garage and battery acid all over the inside engine compartment and on the workbench. Luckily I was sitting in the driver seat behind the windshield With the hood open. I’m convinced that if it was closed, the fiberglass AAR hood would’ve been destroyed. I’ll be happy if I never have to experience that again.
