Sucks Chris. Assuming the alternator was nothing special, the projected dollar cost doesn't seem to bad.
Actually seeing the prices for some spark plug wires these days, that might cost as much.
The alternator wires will be a bit of a PIA. Remember that main alternator feed is connected to the battery. There's no fusible link in '64. Make sure you disconnect the battery. Negative first, then positive.
