There really not that expensive anymore. Yes! They will cost more but then again, you get more. As always, you gotta pay for higher performance.
Once you have the head, you need valves and a valve job. After that, the springs, retainers and locks should be selected for the cam used, just like any other head you get. The only cost savings to a complete aftermarket head is if your cam can used the springs they come with.
Serious builders of power understand this and often change the springs on the complete head right away anyway.
As soon as I got my CNC ProMaxx heads, I whipped out the spring seat cutter and threw away the springs in favor of a spring better suited for the job. Checked the valve job, reassembled the heads…. BAMM BABY!
