Boiled peanuts is a Southern thing, but they can be bought at the grocery in a can heck maybe even in Mi.!! Boil them again, and eat warm or cold. If you are not a S. local, you will either love or hate them.
I was raised in S W Ga and peanut country. A kid back then, could boil, them in salty water (until tender), pressure cooker was fast, sell them on Main St. in a small paper bag for $.10 and make a lot of $$ every Fri and Sat afternoon. Can't say I have ever seen anyone born there that did not have a taste for them. They are best picked about 10 days or so before maturity.
Yea back in the 60s, $.10 went a lot further!
Back then, in the late fall, I rode my horse out across the countryside looking for any pecan trees out around any old home sites that "appeared" not to be "valued" by anyone. I guess you could call it stealing. I was about 13 and figured worse would be a cussing an run off. I paid for my first "good" saddle. About 500# of pecans picked up and hauled off in gunny sacks horse back. :BangHead:
