In a nutshell their old fan base in dwindling. Nascar is a business that needs to operate in the black so they have that to contend with. And in business the only sure fired way to repeat losses is to continue doing things as you have been. I don't know much about the sport as many others do but for a business model they are trying to lure in a new fan base.
Whether I agree with it or not doesn't matter so long as they can keep it going. If Dodge wants back in it good for them. But the fan base is changing and their needs out of racing will be different from a fan of 30 years ago. I personally think they are going to make a whole bunch of changes by the end of 2023...
My two cents, I used to be an avid Nascar fan but when Dodge left the scene, my interest wasn't far behind. It really bothered me when Dodge wins the championship with a 2 car team in 2012 and doesn't return in 2013. Now we have toyota running in the Great American Race, will the Russian Lada be next to get on board. Dodge through the later years had trouble finding Race teams to run Dodge cars.
I guess Dodge lack of enough funding for the teams was a major cause of that.
