I think you may be out of real-estate with the AC pump, lower it down.

Giving some perspective here they're still 6 in gap. The engines covered but the 6-in ruler is coming down on top of that AC unit which is actually lower than the top of the carburetor without an air filter on it. Slightly in the background is the brake master cylinder and all of its way lower than that.. I'm pretty sure the hood doesn't slope down too much...
