Aftermarket Center console for purists

AND NOW YET ANOTHER annoying story from the old days..........

Before I joined the Navy, so this was 66-67, I had a more-door 57 Bel Air Chev. It was "put together" and did not have the proper generator..........explain.............Power steering on those old girls, was the "cylinder on the drag link," and the pump was driven OFF THE REAR of the generator. But I did not HAVE the correct generator, so I just left the PS unhooked. At some point I got some money, got the correct generator, and hooked up the PS

BUT THIS GENERATED it's own problem. With no PS, steering effort was impressive, and the "return to center" was "mighty effective." AFTER connecting the PS, the "return to center" was "not so much".

There was a popular drive in in town, "Don's drive in." Friend of mine and I stopped in got coke and a shake, and left. I turned out of the lot onto the street, steering with "I guess" my right hand, holding the shake in my left. "Almost too late" I realized the thing was not returning, and I reached "cross arm" frantically with my other hand, dumping the shake neatly upside down on the transmission hump and shifter!!!
