Help! Putting Hurst shifter back togetger

Hi! I pissed up and didn’t take a picture of this when it was assembled and can’t figure out how it should go back together. Is there anything that retains the cross shaped piece? It came out with no effort but found a broken washer in there once I got it apart. Does that go on top of one of the springs?? This just doesn’t seem right. I have the Brewers kit but wishing I’d just left the dang thing alone.
