Here's one for ya, always gives me a chuckle seeing this

We live in a city on a lake and we use lake water to cool the power plant
Once we are done with the water it is piping hot and needs to be cooled off before it gets returned to the lake

So they ran this water through a pipe system under our sidewalks and it warms them up
I think I read it has has capacity of melting 2 inches of snow per hour
