318 4 bbl and intake upgrade

Many years ago I had a standard 2 bbl 360 in a charger and it was reasonable on fuel and went alright. I put a 340 cast iron 4bbl intake on with 4bbl carb and it lost performance and fuel economy. I could never convince my brother that this was the case.
