Stop in for a cup of coffee

There was a trick that some of the Desert Racers I raced with used to do to torsion bars on the VW based rear suspension. Almost everyone went to larger than stock bars. Some of them put those bars on the lathe and machined a taper on them.
The taper going to the trailing arm end of the bar. Allegedly in the reasonably flat stuff the suspension just kinda floated over the little dirt bumps and the car retained it's traction better. When they got to the big stuff, the bars would wrap up more and engage the larger portion of the bar. I think most of those desert racers have gone to coil overs now where the rules allow.
