Why is everyone using cable kickdowns?

If you have no linkage at all, I can see using cable. But if you have any kind of welder, you don't have to buy a four barrel linkage setup. Two barrel linkage can easily be modified to work with four barrels. Just move the cable attachment point forward (and maybe up), and lengthen the trans kick down rod. Cost: zero.

Here's the modified two barrel throttle linkage on my 64 Polara. Lengthened the kick down rod, raised the cable mounting point. Cost: zero.

Here's a late model slant six two barrel throttle and kickdown linkage modified to work on an early slant six with a four barrel. Again, moved forward the throttle cable attaching point, lengthened the flat kickdown linkage piece from the carb down to the pivot just below the throttle cable attaching point, then spliced the late model kickdown rod below that to the original 63 kickdown rod. Again, cost: zero.
