I ran 7 years on the same engine with not one blow up or leak but my engine was naturally aspirated. Naturally aspirated rotaries are actually very reliable and if they ever do blow up they never leak oil. The 787b won 24hr la mans because it was the most reliable engine, not because it was the fastest. Now on the other hand when you add a bunch of boost, these engines were not made to hold 60+lbs of boost like some of these guys are running crazy boost and crazy times 6.00 in the 1/4 mile! What happens is the housing twist and crack and the oil feed is exposed and sprays oil. Now with billet technology today they are making all these parts out of billet and the breakage is much less with the turbo cars. But just like top fuel, if you are running on the very limits, stuff is going to break. Thats why I went all motor because no way I had the time or money to build engines all the time.
