Not bad. And in my opinion is because they accent the car. Once a rim becomes that "Accent" And takes away attention from the car itself? It's almost universally shunned. Especially on classic car.
Below (I believe) is a prime example. When you look at this Charger. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the rims.
What makes good art? It's all about eye attention. A good piece will demand more eye attention. The longer you look? The better. But if deflected like that of this Charger? You don't see a decent shade of red paint. Or the updated hemi Powerplant. You just see and ask. "What's up this the rims?" Thus "Too much." In my opinion.
