Many good ways to do this. The reason I went straight and not angled is the tubing still intersects (red), and when you add the lap plates (yellow) mine are 1/8" thick it ties it together strong enough and the lap plates allow for stress load transition into the lighter gage crossmember without eventual cracking. Yours looks great. Like USCT stuff.
