well lacquer cracking or checking . that paint never really dries completely . and if you use sealing waxes and or polishes . the paint can't breath , so it splits to breath . also sun light and its heat of the day is bad for lacquer paint jobs . i have been paint'n from the early 70's on . and my first racing helmet is just like it was back in the 70's . because i never use a wax that seals , carnuba wax is the reason . now it has not been waxed or polished in mure than many years , but here ios some pics of my bell star 90 . yes 90deg view , its a 70 issue bell star . well it was just to dusty in the first two pics . so i wiped it off for better pics of my old helmet , my race bike was painted the same . it still looks good nicks n all .
