Seeing the thread about Dave McClelland passing, RIP Dave, reminded me of another announcing/broadcasting great Steve Evans.
We were at Irwindale one Saturday night, Steve Evans was doing the announcing, I think he may have been the track manager at the time also
Richard Schroeder's Bad Bossa Nova was part of the show. Schroeder had just sold the Nova and that evening was the new owner's first time out. Evans had Schroeder in the booth with him that night and they had a brief talk about the Nova. After the new owner had made his burnout pass and returned for his wheelstand Schroeder says "To all of you photographers and spectators next to the guardrail. I built that car and despite it's safety gear I know what it is capable of. Get away from the guardrail!" You could hear Steve Evans trying to muffle his laugh
