I have a 3.09:1 fist gear transmission, that coupled with 3.23 ring and pinion is about equivalent to a 3.73 gear. Not super deep, but not really tall either. The narrow LSA creates stronger pulses down low due to higher cylinder pressures.

not sure how you are figuring that. Short first gear will hit the tire harder( might be good, might be bad depending on the chassis) but it also lengthens other gears, doesn’t it?
3.23 is a tall gear, period, nothing about first gear is gonna change that
Putting a low gear set in a 904 helps some cars too… but the spread can also be detrimental to others
It’s always a tradeoff
