Interesting that at cold start up everything was slack... Nothing happening with either Park or Shift. Once warmed up and fluid level topped up it took some time before it started to react to Park disengagement and drive gear engagement (forward or reverse) as if it had to build up pressure within the system.

Could the fluid I'm using be a cause of issue?
