Well I can tell you this. I have seen first hand several factory 400s with forged cranks from the factory and I owned one. 1977 date coded Chrysler bearings. In trucks with manual transmissions, they got the forged crank right to the end of big block production.

I did some digging around and found the only possible time a forged crank was installed at the factory was between 72-73.
So I guess I was wrong, just assumed from the 20 or so I've had apart in my life of all years, I never seen a forged crank 400.
