I've carried alternators a few times, and the one time I should have, I didn't. Was the last time I trusted that local rebuilder.
Most important I carry a few basic tools. Enough to handle most basic repairs and replacements, triangles, and a first aid kit.
Those all go in the green box and the blue tackle box. They generally get strapped in over the axle.
Not laughing here. I take spares if I can of parts that have given clues of that perhaps I should have lower confidence in making it the whole trip.
