Personally, I don't think I'd play with anything from the deck down unless I really had to, apart from milling the deck . No rod work, no balancing, no fancy pistons. It would be nice to get some thinner rings in there but unless you have a trick up your sleeve, you won't be doing that with a factory piston.
Do the heads, do the manifold, size the cam and play with the carb. Dyno it, see what you get and then just go from there.
