No it's your guy's inconsistency in logic, for one most 318 guy's just want to do basic mods to a running long block don't see many looking to build a full out 318 even if it's a full build.
But even if we're talking full out 318 this idea that 90 thousands is enough to snuff out any performance possibilities is ridiculous. Then passing over the extra 40 thousands of a 340 wouldn't be trivial and worth the extra $$$$ for the 340 block especially on 8,000-12,000k motor, or boring 60 would be standard fare.
But a 383 has 1/4" bore advantage is not worth doing and 440 is too big and heavy even though dollar for dollar make a 100 hp over a 408, cause displacement is king stops at a 408 which a 60 over 383 comes close to, is a 318 better than 360 no is anyone arguing it is no, just that a 318 is a capable platform and if someone wants to why not every other mopar V8 340/383/400/440 and even the lesser big blocks are a mile above a 360 in capably, 360 only has a bore advantage over 273/318. You guy’s are cheerleading third worse and bragging oh how better it is over second worst :)
