273 Intake Manifold Question!
Old Edelbrock LD4B also came with 273/318 sized ports, if you happen to come across one by accident. I’ve read that some members swear by an unmodified street dominator for 273 use.
While on the subject of possible 273 intakes, an Edelbrock SP2P or an Offenhauser dual port that were introduced during the fuel crisis are not performance intakes by any stretch of the imagination, I think they would still be better performers than the stock two barrel on a low compression small cam 273. Not so much the SP2P, but the Offy dual port should make great power from idle to about 5000 rpm on a 273. It makes the most torque of any intake in a micro cam (.400 194 @ .050 108 LSA Isky Mil-a-more) RV 318 to 4,000 rpm.
The only manifold of that era I wouldn’t use is the Edelbrock 318 street master, unless I were trying to build a 30 mpg gallon highway engine. It might not even be good for that. It would have been okay if it weren’t designed with reverse tapered runners and almost every part of the plenum that doesn’t have an intake port coming out of it surrounded by exhaust crossover heat all the way to the carb pad.
But it’s a great intake for someone with a milling machine or shaper needing a base to cut and build a sheet metal intake on top of.
