340 A body versus 383 B body

Mopar Action had an article on a '60 M-Code Cuda. Back in '69, Cliff Gromer and Joe Oldham tested it in NJ in a cold October. Turned a 14.04@104 stock. They took it to a dealer for a check and tune. Got 9" slicks from Motion Performance and back on the track turned [email protected] smoking the tires. Setting timing at 36°, and a pressure adjustment got them to 13.53 @ 106.6. Power-braking and leaving at 3000 got them to [email protected]. Another run shifting at 5200 vs 5000 got them to a 128.82@ 110.9. Lowering the rear pressure more and increasing the fronts to 45 PSI got them to a best of [email protected].
Tire traction and driving technique were what it took to go fast back then. Hard to do on E70's.
