David Vizard, Uncle Tony's garage, Unity motorsport. Mission impossible Dodge 302 Head porting
Back a year or so before I got my first driver's license my dad had a 76 charger SE ((a Cordoba with a different grill and taillights) that had a real tired 360 in it. He went and got a low mile (supposed around 40k Mile) '77 318 out of a lebaron, in a local junkyard, that was originally a lean burn 318. No way we were adding lean burn to a car that never had it....
We took the original Holley 2 bbl intake and carb, and the distributor out of the original engine and ran it on the "new" (to the car anyway) engine.
My brother parted out an extremely rusty 74 charger around then. The 727 came out of there, went in for a "bench rebuild" and went in behind that 318. I wasn't yet old enough to drive even though I did about 75% of the wrenching on that swap. My dad couldn't believe it, that Car ran better with the 318 with the 360 intake carb and ignition than the 360 those parts came from, ever ran in that car.... And was way better on gas too.
My dad was one of those who kept a book on every car he owned, from the day he got it.. every quart of oil, every tank of gas, every set of brakes and tires got put into the book.tgis was about 1982.
One thing I thought was weird about that 318 from the get go, was that it had the "IH" ( yeah international harvester) logo cast into it in 2 locations. Once on the back face of the block and one on (I forget which) side of the block. About 4 years later (after I was out of high school a year or so) that became my first car. '86-87ish
