On these cars there was no headlight relay. The power goes through the headlight switch. That said, making or buying a relay harness is a good way to get brighter lights and reduce the electrical load on the original connectors.
Schematically the factory headlight circuit looks like this:
Power from the alternator (unles the engine is off) goes to the headlight switch's B1 terminal.
With the switch pulled all the way out, electricity flows to the hi/low switch on the floor, then to the multiconnector on the firewll and on to the headlights.
( there is a 15 amp circuit breaker built into the B1 circuit of the headlight switch.)
