Wheel adapters?

I had a friend use adapters on his Torino to put modern Mustang cobra wheels on it. Same bolt pattern, different offset and center bore was the reason. He had constant issues with his wheels working themselves loose. The adapters would work loose from the his and the wheels would work loose from the adapters.

I don't know if the aluminum was too soft or if the studs were stretching. But that was enough to scare me away from them.
