A local friend of mine has a 26 spline unit behind a 408" SB street car with a radial tires for over 20 years, and has never had any issues. It is driven hard.
I picked up a 26-spline 833 years ago as a spare, did not realize at the time it WAS a 26, did not know back then there was such a thing. I am considering using it as a stand-in for the 833 I am currently using...as it might have some problems of its own and might be taken out. That to still be determined.
It's good to know that specification does not make it useful for only the smaller output engines of the time of its manufacture. I was not so much concerned about the 26 part...but that it may be an ID for a 'lesser' transmission that wasn't quite up to snuff.
It's good to see that some outfits (like Brewer's) still sell prop shafts for a 26-spline/7290 u-joint setup.
