I have a course of action determined for the Valiant. I have located an unmolested, 1964, small block, pushbutton A904, complete with flex plate, kickdown linkage, and cables. The owner still has the 273 that it was mated to (1964 casting). The slanty is coming out...although I will hang onto it as it had a great deal of work done to it. It may find a new home in a future vehicle (Crazy me would like to get a U.S. built 64 Valiant to show the difference)... anyhow.. that's down the road A LOT.
Next steps after the Cannonball Run to get the transmission, is to start the teardown and rebuild of the 273. Thanks @lkopaska for pinging me on that other 904... I still plan to unscramble this poor one that I have on hand since there's so much blood, sweat, tears and $$ in it.

Initial direction with the 273 will be a stock build if the cylinders and other components are in good shape and don't require any touch-up.
