Very impressed with gas mileage

They had similar trials here & the Slant won from memory. Not hard to see why..... The long runners on the Slant [a] improved low end tq & evened up the runner length. The two other contenders were the local Holden & Ferd inline sixes. The Ferd in particular was about as inefficient for power & economy as you can get......The intake manifold resembled a 2 .5 ft length of water pipe with runners running off at 90*.
Yup and all you ever see in these forums is how crappy the fuel distribution is on the slant 6 manifold. Yet, that was a huge engineering point from Chrysler. They hammered on how much better their manifolding was than the competition and they were right, IMO. The runner lengths are deceiving when viewed from the outside. You have to look where they branch off from the inside. Once you do that, you see how much closer to equal length they are. ......much closer than any of the competition of the day.
