That's a real pickup. :)
One tube is not factory. LOL.
Some did have a return line but I'm not aware of any with two pickups.
Typical arrangement is a short rubber hose connecting the fuel pickup to the fuel line.
Why was there a hose ?? I would not expect flex between the chassis and the tank but I'll trust Chrysler was smarter than me here.
If ther car is really stifferend up, maybe not needed???
As far as the socks go, I recall there are flexible ones like that and non collapsing ones
