Interesting video RPM Airgap intake flow.

@Icetech, I don't believe you will have trouble with the rpm on a small block in your 62.
Mine has a dart raisin bran scoop, but it doesn't need it for carb clearance. My 440 has a team G single plane, 850 brawler, and a drop base a/c that came with the carb, and I have plenty of clearance, even without the scoop.
Heck, I've had a maxwedge crossramon it, with all the hood bracing intact, but I wasn't running aircleaners at that time. Air cleaners may have been a problem, at least the factory max repops might have been.
