(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The city of Chicago and southeast Cook County was under a Flash Flood warning until 10 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service announced.
It's the second wave of major rainfall that has hit the region this week. Sunday, up to 8 inches fell in some areas, causing flash flooding and forcing the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago to release stormwater and sewage into Lake Michigan.
Flash Flood Warning for much of the Chicago area
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Many communities in the Chicago area are still recovering from last night’s powerful storms that blew through.
ComEd says fewer than 2,000 homes and businesses remain without electricity.
At the height of the outages, around 16,000 homes and businesses were without electricity in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. Strong winds not only knocked out power but blew over trees, including the big one that was ripped from its roots and fell over onto Bill Kocinski’s house on 111th and Ewing in the East Side neighborhood.
He told CBS-2 he felt the crash.
“I was inside working and then the storm was coming through and then there was a big clap of thunder and then the house shook,”
Not too far away, on 101st and Torrence in South Deering, the street was blocked for a while because of a tree that had fallen onto it.
Rain from last night’s storms also caused flooded streets in the Chicago area.
