I don't know if the numbers have changed at all by age group. I think what you are seeing is that the younger ones are in a recovery program. Many older folks are not that lucky. If they survive it's not to the degree where they can do a program like that.
Well having spent the week down there I would have to disagree. The patients span the entire spectrum of rehabilitation. Both old and young that cannot walk or talk yet. The program takes all. It will break your heart. A young thirty year old woman that still cannot speak or walk yet started bawling alligator tears in frustration watching my daughter’s progress While making very little of her own. It is heart wrenching. I have no idea how the PT therapists can do it day after day. It takes a special kind of person, much like the ICU ward. Caring for someone with exceptional compassion knowing there is a zero chance for recovery. One of Gods gift to our society is folks like that.
