Stop in for a cup of coffee

So back in the fall of 2018, my family and I took a late summer vacation to Spring Hill and Pine island, the Weeki Wachee area. Anyway, one of our last days there, I stopped at the dollar general to get some cheap condiments to go with the burgers we was grilling out. At the check was this early 20s something lady with what looked to be at the time a 2-3 year old Girl. She was trying to buy food with her eBt card and apparently that system was down, she then tried paying with a debit card and that declined. Lady at the register was telling her she didn’t have enough money on it, her total order was about 25 bucks. She started to try to put things back and eventually got all the way down to the little bottle of chocolate milk the poor little girl had clutched her hands. While all this was going on, I was several people back in line and barely aware of the total or what was going on. So I walked up and started listening in, when the mom tried to take the chocolate milk from the little girl, it hit me. At this point, I made a decision I would make 1000000 times over, I stepped in, paid for her entire order and even tossed in some extra for an entire gallon of chocolate milk. The young mom cried and cried , some old lady walked up, gave me a hug and then calmed the young lady down.

Anyway, she thanked me profusely and we went out separate ways. Haven’t thought about it since.

Well this evening, I saw that area has been flooded badly by the hurricane and this memory came rushing back and I can’t help but wonder what ever came of that thing lady and her little one. I hope they’re okay and doing well
