Ok it was my lame attempt at satirical wit as a firearms instructor and Marine. I often teach Carbine classes To military, civilian and LEOs. Typically for a Carbine class the student will utilize a AR15 platform rifle. Right now the secondary and “niche market” for ARs has created a plethora of bolt on gadgets for the rifle. Typically they are attached to the handguard up front. This in turn creates more and more weight for the student to carry all day looped around his neck with a sling. The gadgets span something as simple and practical as a flashlight to virtually anything someone can market to a new shooter. Once we “hang” the rifles (rifle with sling attached and looped around upper body of student) it stays there till we are done, in essence letting it hang is the equivalent of a holster for a pistol. As the instructor, it ensures I stay safe as the rifle is pointed at the ground and the Students hands are free. Students hands aren’t free I am not safe. The sling transfers all the weight to the shooters neck typically. Dark Military infantry humor if you will, most of us have experienced a Rifle around your neck for hours on end, a mere 60-90 pounds of ruck on your back (unless your carrying spare belts or mortars then it is more) there is a reason our necks, backs, ankles and shoulders are trashed. Hope this helps!
