Any gains adding 1.6 rockers to stock 273?
Mr. George, the car is CURRENTLY a stock 2bbl 273. But not for long!
just to clarify, I am not wanting to make a hot rod out of it. I recently bought the car and LOVE driving it regularly! I am still in the process of figuring out want I actually have, and what I can do to make it a little "peppier"for daily driving. I know it has the aftermarket electronic distributor, and it has a dual exhaust. Also there is currently the stock 7-1/4 rear end, which I assume has 2.94 gear. There are 85000 miles on the odometer. It looks like the car was somewhat restored in the 90's. The paint on the motor (top and bottom) looks too good to be original, but it definitely did not get a performance rebuild.
The story I have is that the building it was stored in was damaged in 2005 by hurricane Katrina. I can only assume by the condition of the paint and rear upholstery, it was stored outdoors and not driven for many many years.
I am actively looking for a new rear-end, as the pinion bearing has excessive play. I think I have a line on a 3.55 8-3/4. I also have a front disk brake conversion kit for it. I will be changing to a 4.5 bolt pattern and 15" wheels. I don't have experience with the 273. I have had multiple big blocks in my many years. I have a 70 GTX 440 numbers matching car for performance and to show off, but I ❤️ the Dart as a regular driver!
I really love this forum for the insights and information!
