I have a perfectly good running printer that I cannot use because I can't download the software to et it running...

When I buy another printer, it will not be another HP....

I hear ya, but that could happen on others as well. Plus as they get older, some cartridges are tougher to find. At least the printer lasted. Most other brands I have used never had that ‘issue’.
