1969 Race Dart w/ 426 Hemi- garaged for 45+ years

Looks very familiar and appears pictured linkage would clear, I guessing different linkage maybe without the bracket was initially installed or attempted to be installed. At this point it can only be speculation and has been remedied but I am always curious about the way these cars evolved.
