Early A-Body Convertible Top Replacement

Our '64 Dart's soft top has a couple of small rips and one larger one (about 6") and I think they need to be addressed soon. I've never done a convertible top replacement, so I'm interested in thoughts on doing one of these. What are some best practices and good things to know before diving into a top replacement? Any product or vendor recommendations?
I tried it once and gave up. I don't have the skills for that type of work. I later paid a guy who specializes in top replacement, and had him use German Canvass and a glass rear window. It looks way better than the vinyl, in my opinion.

I also installed Crackled back's top relay wiring kit. That is a worthwhile upgrade
