Mopar 383 engine, freshened up and ready to go!
Running Mopar 383 engine for sale. $3150.00
Hear it run at Spring Fling Mopar show at Woodley Park on April 20th at 21st if still available.
This is a Mopar, big block 383 engine, casting date of 7/23/68 (1969 model year) that has been freshen up and ready to drop in your ride. This engine has been broken in on this run stand and has perfect compression across the board. Here is a list of everything that has been done.
Engine block……
Professionally hot tanked, bored, and honed to .060 over. New brass freeze plugs and Dura Bond cam bearings were installed. Deck has been checked for straightness. All threaded holes have been cleaned and chased.
Crankshaft…..
Crank has been hand polished. Clearances checked and fall within specifications. Sealed Power Main bearings (.030) and Rod bearings (.010) Crank end play is set at .006. All main bearing specifications are at .002 clearance. The rotating assembly has been balanced but I have no specs. This crank has some minor imperfections on the bearing surfaces but nothing that will cause bearing failure.
Piston and Rods…
Pistons are manufactured by Badger. They are .060 over cast piston with Hastings cast top and second ring for fast and reliable break in. Ring end gap was checked and fall within specs. Rods are stock. All rod bearing specifications are at .002 clearance. Compression ratio is 8.95 to 1…..or 9 to 1 if that makes you happy…lol!
Cam and Lifters….
Cam is an original 1969 cam that has a lift of .410+/-. Original lifters have been completely disassembled, cleaned and reassembled making sure the lifters went back on there original lobes.
New Millings double roller timing chain was installed.
Cylinder Heads and valve train…….
Stock “906” heads were disassembled, cleaned and deck surface checked. New freeze plugs installed and reassembled using new umbrella seals. Original valves were lapped into place and valve springs were shimmed to original spring pressures. Stock original rockers and shafts were checked and used.
External items…..
New oil pan, gaskets, water pump and fuel pump was installed. Valve covers, timing chain cover, thermostat housing and water pump housing were cleaned, checked, premiered and installed.
This engine is not a “new and rebuilt engine”. This is a real nice freshened up engine that you can drop into your car and drive the daylights out of. Or if you have that car or truck body in your back yard that you want to get running and sell…..well then this is the perfect engine for you! The block, heads and intake were painted with cast iron paint so it will be easy for you to paint what ever color you want. This engine runs real nice and it pulls 20” of vacuum. This means it’s running on all eight cylinders, each cylinder is pulling an equal load and power brakes are not an issue to use.
At $3150 that is a third of what it cost to professionally rebuild an engine today. Why spend all that money when you don’t need to?
I performed a compression check and it passed perfectly.
