Oil leak at valve covers

I installed a new set of cork valve cover gaskets recently and oil residue is visible all around both valve covers, but it isn’t dripping oil out. Are cork gaskets just crap? Should I have put some type of sealant under the gaskets?

Fel-Pro cork is all I use !!!!

I'm going with operator error on this one. To call cork gaskets crap is just silly. People have been using cork gaskets with excellent results for generations.

You can't expect to just slap some gaskets on, tighten them down, and expect them not to leak. There are steps to any gasket when installing, to get them to work properly.
