Anyone done a strong 400 build ?

Fortunately I've got the 400 virgin block.it seems stroker kit prices have leveled out somewhat
, $ 2700 for a 512 stroker kit
$2500 for heads and intake
Probably $2000 in cam and gear
Machining, gaskets, oil pump etc
$2800
Equals 10k
Plus another 1k for things you forgot
Equals 11k
The shop I work with builds Mopar stroker engines all the time. There are usually three or four of them in process. They usually end up costing between $10K and $15K depending on the parts used. You can build a good street motor on a budget but you have to be super careful about part selection. It is best to work with a shop that has experience since they'll know what works and what doesn't. A lot of parts are junk these days, even some of the good brand names have gone down hill recently.

If I was going to do a 512 low deck I'd use a stroker kit that had a piston that was less than 10:1 compression with a TF240 head. Use the TF240 head, a Performer RPM intake, a small hyd roller cam, and Comp steel rocker arms. Those engines usually make 600 torque and something in the 550 range for HP. You can easily make more HP with a bigger cam and a single plane intake, but the street manners get a lot worse. Just depends on car weight, rear gear and how rowdy you want the engine to be.
