Intake Manifold Gasket Recommendations

Anybody have any recommendations on a set of intake manifold gaskets for my 340? I don’t do this enough to know what works better than what…
I just finished test fitting my Mr Gasket #5840 intake gaskets and found the same issues as mentioned above. The China wall cork gaskets measured about .19” thick and would not allow the intake to sit low enough for the sides of the intake to sit on the head mounting surfaces. I too have filled the China walls with sealant after removing these gaskets in the past, but this time I wanted to fill these areas up a bit since I had some time before the install.

So, I remembered reading a thread on here about another member buying a gasket kit with sheets of different thickness/materials of gaskets. The kit that I found was the Fel-Pro #3060 ($12 Amazon). I traced out my existing China wall gaskets onto the thinner (.060” or .12”) sheets and after cutting them to fit, I used some brake cleaner to clean the China wall surfaces and then sprayed the new gaskets with some spray adhesive. I allowed the glue to setup and then retested the intake fit.

The sides of the intake now sit down on the side gaskets flush and my gaps on the China walls are now .02”-.03” instead of previously about .09”-.11”. When I am ready for the intake install, I will still use sealant in these areas, but there will be much less area to fill. The adhesive will keep the gaskets in place while bolting on the intake.

Thanks for this post as it helped me out over the weekend.
